Choosing what lights to use for growing your plants indoors may seem like a pretty simple task, but in reality it is a very complex undertaking. A lot of different factors must be considered when purchasing grow lights, and Urban Garden Supplymaking a mistake can lead to your plants not growing at all. From high-intensity discharge (HID) lights to the new and innovative LED grow lights, it can be overwhelming to choose the right kind for your plants. Some plants require different colors of lighting, which only adds to the buyer’s confusion. A rule of thumb for indoor lighting is that the cheaper the lighting, the more expensive it is to run and maintain. Plants also require dark periods just as they require sunlight. Some plants require more light than others, such as vegetables. Fluorescent lights and certain types of HID lights give off plenty of light, and would be a good choice for growing indoor vegetables. Really bushy plants require much less light, so it would be possible to grow them indoors with your standard incandescent lights, which many people do. LED lights are the wave of the future, and take very little electricity to keep running for long periods of time. LED lights also give off less heat and can be placed closer to plants. They can also change wavelengths and switch spectrums to mimic patterns in natural light that plants are adapted to.
